The PANTONE Solid Guide Set is the complete portable
reference for professionals working with Pantone Spot Colours in graphic design
and print production. This cost-saving bundle combines four handheld fan decks:
Formula Guide Coated, Formula Guide Uncoated, Metallics Guide and Pastels &
Neons Guide. Together, they provide 3,479 Pantone Matching System colours for
inspiration, selection, specification, communication and production control.
The updated collection contains 2,614 traditional Pantone
Spot Colours, including 224 new trend-driven additions, plus 655 metallics, 154
pastels and 56 neons. This extensive combination gives designers access to both
core and specialty spot colours without purchasing each guide separately.
Pantone Spot Colours are specifically mixed inks identified
by standardized Pantone numbers. Unlike CMYK colours created by combining cyan,
magenta, yellow and black during printing, spot colours are printed using a
dedicated ink. This can produce more accurate brand colours, cleaner solid
areas and shades that are difficult to reproduce reliably with standard
four-colour process printing.
The Formula Guides form the core of the set, presenting all
2,614 traditional Pantone Spot Colours on coated and uncoated paper. The same
colour can look substantially different depending on the paper surface. Coated
stock generally produces a sharper and more saturated appearance, while
uncoated stock absorbs more ink and often makes colours look softer or more
muted. Comparing both references helps users select the correct Pantone C or U
designation for the intended application.
The guides are printed on commonly used paper weights: 100
lb coated stock at 148 g/m² and 80 lb uncoated stock at 118 g/m².
The Metallics Guide expands the system with 655 metallic
spot colours for projects requiring reflection, depth and premium impact. Its
selection includes traditional metallics and durable packaging metallics suited
to logos, labels, promotional materials, signage and high-value packaging.
Metallic inks create a physical visual effect that cannot be accurately
represented by standard CMYK printing or an illuminated screen.
The Pastels & Neons Guide adds 154 pastel and 56 neon
colours. Pastels offer soft, light and understated shades for refined branding
and packaging concepts. Neons provide vivid, high-visibility options for
energetic identities, promotional graphics, signage and attention-focused
print. These specialty inks should be evaluated physically because their
appearance cannot be reproduced reliably through ordinary displays or
four-colour process printing.
All colours are arranged chromatically, allowing users to
browse related families, compare neighbouring shades and develop palettes
intuitively. The 224 new Pantone colours are positioned at the front of both
Formula Guides for quick access, while five new base inks are shown on page 1.5
of the full guide. Numerical indexes at the back make individual colour
references easy to locate.
Every colour is displayed with its corresponding Pantone
number and ink formulation. A shared physical standard helps reduce
interpretation errors between artwork, prepress, proofing and pressroom
production.
Lighting Indicator pages demonstrate whether the viewing
environment is suitable for visual colour evaluation. Checking the lighting
conditions supports more reliable comparisons during studio reviews,
stakeholder presentations, supplier discussions and press checks.
The compact fan-deck format makes the complete collection
easy to transport between studio, classroom, customer meeting and production
site. Designers can browse colour directions during early concept development,
share precise Pantone references with decision-makers and bring the same guides
to proof reviews or press approvals.
For branding, the set supports consistent colour
specification for logos, corporate identities, stationery and campaigns.
Packaging designers can compare traditional and specialty inks for cartons,
labels and premium finishes. Printers and prepress teams benefit from the ink
formulations, while creative directors and educators gain a broad physical
colour library for palette development, teaching and presentation.
The Solid Guide Set focuses specifically on Pantone Spot
Colours and their ink formulations. It does not provide CMYK, RGB or HTML/Hex
conversions; these are available through the PANTONE Color Bridge Guides.
For projects where accurate spot-colour communication is
essential, the PANTONE Solid Guide Set provides the complete standard,
metallic, pastel and neon range in one efficient bundle. Its 3,479 colours,
portable format and production-ready formulations help creative and technical
teams make more confident decisions before printing begins.
